Barbados Judo Association and the Barbados Olympic Association recently had a singular honour when Head Coach of the Barbados Judo Association, Ian Weithers, was invited as the International Judo Federation (IJF) technical expert to conduct a seminar in Macedonia.
This Olympic Solidarity technical seminar coordinated by the Macedonian Olympic Committee and the Macedonian Judo Federation had some forty participants. Aspects related to changes in competition rules, methodology for working with children, planning an annual training program, nage no kata, extended gokyu and combination techniques were discussed. Practical sessions followed the technical seminar. The last day of the program saw history created as the first dan grade examination in the history of the Macedonian Judo Federation was conducted.

According to Head Coach Weithers "...the experience was tremendous. Out of friendship with Macedonian Head Coach Igor Paskoski, who shares a similar passion for judo development, came an idea. Through negotiations, challenges and commitment we saw this idea turn to excellence. Judokas from around Macedonia came together, studying and working to develop each other. We saw such spirit...such camaraderie...such technique....It was great."
