THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL


AUSTIN L. SEALY S.C.M - I.O.C. MEMBER

Austin Sealy was elected to the Council of the Barbados Olympic Association in 1972, becoming Treasurer in 1974 and President in 1982, a position he held until 1996. He is currently the Immediate Past President. At the 103rd I.O.C. Session, Austin Sealy was elected to the International Olympic Committee, the first Barbadian and only the second person from the English-speaking Caribbean to be appointed to this body.

Mr. Sealy has a long and impressive record in sports administration having served on the Executive Committees of the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association and the Amateur Athletic Association of Barbados. He was President of the latter Association from 1969 to 1976 and from 1981 to 1988. Austin Sealy inaugurated the CARIFTA Games in 1972. These Games, which have become an annual event on the track and field calendar, is the primary vehicle for the development of young track and field competitors in the Caribbean region. He was awarded an IAAF Veterans Pin and in 2001 was awarded the IAAF Plaque of Merit for his contribution to athletics over the years.

On the international scene, Mr. Sealy is a member of the Olympic Solidarity Commission. He is also Treasurer of the Commonwealth Games Federation and a member of the Executive Board of the Association of National Olympic Committees.

In 1985, Austin Sealy was bestowed one of Barbados’ highest honours – The Silver Crown of Merit.

 

STEVE R. STOUTE S.C.M - PRESIDENT

One of the Caribbean's longest serving Olympic officials, Steve Stoute was elected to the helm of the Barbados Olympic Association in 1996 after serving as Secretary General since 1968. His career in sports administration dates back to 1964, when he was appointed General Secretary of the Barbados National Federation for Cycling. 

Steve Stoute was also a member of the National Sports Council of Barbados for a record twenty one years. He served as Chairman of this organization from 1983 to 1994.
He is the Chairman of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) and Second Vice President of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO).

During his long tenure in sports administration, Stoute has been presented with numerous awards but the two most significant were in 1991 and 1997. In 1991, on the occasion of Barbados' 25th Anniversary of Independence, Stoute was conferred with one of the country's highest awards, the Silver Crown of Merit, recognizing over 30 years of service to sports and insurance. In May 1997 he was awarded the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Order of Merit.

Mr. Stoute is the Senior Executive Vice President of the Sagicor Group of Companies, the oldest and most geographically diverse Caribbean financial institution. He is the President of the Insurance Association of the Caribbean and holds a number of positions on the Executive Committees of other local and regional business organizations.


 

RALPH JOHNSON - VICE-PRESIDENT

Elected Vice President of the Barbados Olympic  Association in 1992, Ralph Johnson was a former President of the Barbados Yachting Association, the Barbados Squash Rackets Association, the Caribbean Squash Rackets Association and the Caribbean Yachting Association. 

He has had a wide and varied sporting career. In his career he has played basketball, football, water polo, water skiing, squash, participated in motor sport and also represented Barbados in boxing. 

He now is an avid golfer and still continues to partake in sailing with much success. In business, he is the Chairman and CEO of the Harris Paints Group in Barbados.

 

ERSKINE SIMMONS - SECRETARY GENERAL

Erskine first became a member of the National Olympic Committee of Barbados in 1986. He was Assistant Secretary General from 1992 to 1996 and now serves as Secretary General. In 1996 he was Chef de Mission at the Atlanta Olympic Games and has also held this post on many other occasions. 

During his nineteen year tenure in sports administration, Erskine has served as Assistant Secretary of the Barbados Football Association and was the founding President of the Barbados Amateur Gymnastics Association. 

In 1998 Erskine was appointed to the Technical Committee of the Pan American Sports Organization. Erskine has been twice nominated for sports awards by the National Sports Council of Barbados.  Erskine is a Life Insurance Underwriter by profession with the Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society.

 

CAMERON BURKE- ASSISTANT SECRETARY GENERAL

Mr. Burke has been a member of the Executive Council of the Barbados Olympic Association since 1996, and is presently Chairman of the PASO/Olympic Solidarity Sub-Committee. In 2000, he was the General Team Manager of the Barbados delegation to the Sydney Olympics and followed this up with an appointment as Chef de Mission of the Barbados team to the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador.

Field Hockey is Mr. Burke's forte, and he is the current Honorary Secretary of the Barbados Hockey Federation, a position he has occupied since 1992. He retired as an International Hockey Umpire after the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002, having made his debut twenty years earlier in 1982.

During this period he officiated in three Pan American Games and numerous other tournaments around the world sponsored by the International Hockey Federation. He continues to work in the international hockey arena as a Technical Official.

 

JOHN GRIFFITH - TREASURER

John has been totally involved in the playing and administration of hockey and volleyball for the past twenty (20) years. A Chartered Accountant by profession, John has been able to use his financial and administrative acumen to propel Barbados’ volleyball to a position of prominence since assuming the Presidency in 1996.

John currently holds the position of Treasurer of the North America, Central America and the Caribbean (NORCECA) body, Vice-president of the Caribbean Zonal Association (CAZOVA) and he is the Internal Auditor of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

As Corporate Controller of the Barbados National Bank, John is responsible for financial reporting, analysis and planning for the BNB Group. He has been with the Bank for over 15 years and he brings a wealth of experience in strategic planning and sports management to the Olympic Association.



PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER


 


LT. COL. TREVOR BROWNE -  DIRECTOR

Lt Col Browne is a newly elected Director of the Association. He was elected at the last AGM for the period 2004 –2008.  

Lt Col Browne has been the president of the Barbados Table Tennis Association (BTTA) since 1999. From 2000 to 2004 he also held the position of president of the Caribbean Table Tennis Federation (CTTF) and Vice president of the Latin American Table Tennis Union (LATTU).

He was manager of the senior Barbados Table Tennis Team to Commonwealth Games 2002, CAC Games, Pan Am Games and for Worlds 2004 in Qatar. 

Lt. Col. Browne, an electrical engineer, is the President of the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers. He is the Chief Administrative Officer at the Barbados Light and Power Company where he has been employed since 1976. He is also a senior officer in the reserve of the Barbados Defence Force and is currently appointed to the position of Commandant of the Barbados Cadet Corps. 

 

DR. ADRIAN LORDE -  DIRECTOR

Dr. Lorde is a Director and Medical Liaison Officer of the Barbados Olympic Association and a Vice President of the Barbados Sports Medicine Association.

He is currently Treasurer of the Pan American Confederation of Sports Medicine (COPAMEDE). He is the Chairman of the Barbados National Anti-Doping Commission. An Independent Sampling Officer for the International Association of Athletic Federations and International Doping Tests and Management, he is a member of the Medical Commissions of the CAC, Pan American and Commonwealth Games.

He served on the WADA Independent Observer Team at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

 

ESTHER MAYNARD -  DIRECTOR

A veteran sports administrator, Mrs. Maynard has been involved in the administration of sport for over thirty years. 

A Physical Education Tutor at the Barbados Community College, she has served the Amateur Athletic Association of Barbados as Assistant Secretary, Secretary, Vice President and President. Her service to the National Olympic Committee began in 1982, first as Assistant Secretary General and later as Treasurer. Since 1996 she has held the position of Director. 

A recipient of the IAAF Veterans Pin in 1995, she is one of a select number of women in the world to have been awarded with this distinction. Mrs. Maynard was the Chef de Mission to the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada and the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. 

An IAAF Lecturer in the Technical Officials Education and Certification System, she has also been the IAAF Technical Delegate for the 2002 CARIFTA Games, 2003 CAC Athletic Championships and the 2004 NACAC Under 23 Athletic Championships. Mrs. Maynard is also a Lecturer and National Course Conductor for Olympic Solidarity Sports Administration Courses.

She recently became an IAAF ATO (Area Technical Official ) at a recently held IAAF seminar in Puerto Rico. Esther is only one of two (2) women from the English speaking Caribbean to hold this position, and the only person in Barbados. Of the 31 participants only 14 became certified ATO's.

 

CRAIG ARCHER -  DIRECTOR

Mr. Archer was elected to the position of Director of the Barbados Olympic Association Inc. in 2001 and was re-elected four years later. He has been involved in the administration of Squash in various capacities, both locally and regionally, for more than twenty years.

He is the current President of the Barbados Squash Rackets Association and has served in that capacity on nine occasions since 1991. In August 2001 Mr. Archer was elected President of the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) for a two year term and is currently the Seventh Officer on the Executive Committee of this regional body. He is also presently serving a two-year term of office as a member of the Technical Committee of the World Squash Federation.

Mr. Archer has also been Manager of Barbados Squash teams to several regional Championships and has also been a member of the Organizing Committee for all major senior and junior squash championships held in Barbados since 1991. He was the BOA's Assistant Chef de Mission for the Barbados delegation to the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the Chef de Mission of the Barbadian contingent to the 2006 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Cartagena, Colombia.

Archer is a registered Civil Engineer by profession but now devotes most of his time in the areas of contract administration and project management. He has served two different two year terms on the Executive Committee of the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers and is also a former member of the Engineers Registration Board of Barbados.
