The Puerto Rican city of
Mayaguez has been selected by the General Assembly of the Sports
Organization of Central America and the Caribbean (Organización
Deportiva Centroamericana y del Caribe - ODECABE) as the site for the
XXI Central American Caribbean Games for 2010.
The organization meeting
in the Palace of Conventions in this Cuban Capital met to both, perfect
the status of the competitions of these, the oldest sport competitions
in the world and to select the next site for the 2010 games. Both
Guatemala and Mayaguez were in competition for the games.
In the meeting, José
Guillermo Rodriguez, mayor of Mayaguez, stated that the presentation for
his City were in fact the presentation of the 100 citizens of Mayaguez
that had worked arduously to make these games possible in Mayaguez
realizing that two countries had worked so hard to be the host of these
games for the great athletes of all the participating nations.
A presentation was also
made by the president of the Olympic Committee, Fernando Beltranena who
demonstrated slides on the advances made in the city regarding
installations that were built for the upcoming 2005 Central American
Games. Mayaguez will organize the XXI Central American Caribbean Games
from July 18 to August 1st. 2010 and will make additional remodeling of
various sporting as well as upgrading the baseball Stadium of the
national baseball team.
