The
Barbados Lawn Tennis Association was established in 1949 and
incorporated as a company in 1977. In 2006, "Lawn" was dropped
from the name and the Association became the Barbados Tennis
Association Inc.
The body is an affiliate of the
International Tennis Federation (ITF) and currently has
approximately 170 senior, 100 junior and 8 club members.
Facilities consisting of 4 hard
courts (1 floodlit) plus clubhouse can be found at the National
Tennis Centre, Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Wildey, St
Michael.
The Association currently fields
teams in the senior Davis and Federation Cup competitions
(Americas Zone) as well as in many junior events held in the
region.
An ITF sanctioned Group 4 Junior
tournament for under 18s and under 14s which attracts young
players from around the world is held annually at the
Association's facilities.
Other Senior and Junior
tournaments for local players are held throughout the year at
the National Tennis Centre and at other clubs around the island. |
