BiiG 2017 Bulletin – Issue No.1

The Barbados Olympic Association announces the launch of their annual, multi-sport Games event to be hosted annually during the month of November in Barbados.

It will be an invitational event, targeting athletes and officials from Barbados, the region, and beyond, and is open to all IOC approved sports.

President of the BOA, Mr Steve Stoute explained that the BOA decision follows the huge success of the special 50th Anniversary Independence Games held last year. The BOA recognized the great demand for a series of local, high-quality events such as BiiG, and moved to establish the concept.

So far, over twenty-five different national sports federations have registered to participate in BiiG, up from the twenty that participated in the 50th Anniversary Games last year.

Chairman of the BiiG Organising Committee, (BiiGOC) Lt Col Trevor Browne is enthusiastic about the prospects that BiiG can have for local sport. He is of the view that it will create a whole new avenue of expression for local and regional sports enthusiasts. “Already we are seeing a number of very creative and innovative changes coming to our sport, and that bodes well for the future” Browne said.
