OLYMPIC DAY 2009
The curtain came down on Olympic Day 2009, with some 420 registrants from 20
Federations participating in the come and try events, and
the Olympic Day Run/Walk.
The Come and Try events are set up to allow Federations to showcase their events
to the public and other federations that would not normally see them.
They were also tours of the Olympic museum, jumping tents and slides, Mario and
Sonic at the Olympic Games on Wii for the young and the young at heart.
From
the 420 persons registered for the Olympic Day Run, the eventual winner of a
special prize, which was an airline ticket to any Caribbean destination serviced

BOA and COC Signs Memorandum of Understanding
TORONTO, June 4, 2009 – Canada and Barbados have pledged a cooperation in
sport after officials from the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Barbados
Olympic Association (BOA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on May 29.
Chris Rudge, CEO and Secretary General of the COC, met with BOA President Steve
Stoute and Secretary General Erskine Simmons to sign the document, which
provides a framework for strengthening the sports relationship between Canada
and Barbados as well as cooperation in the fields of physical fitness and
development of excellence in sports.
“The Canadian Olympic Committee and the Barbados Olympic Association have
historically had close ties," said COC President Michael Chambers. "Signing this
Memorandum of Understanding helps us work even more closely with our colleagues
in Barbados to improve sport development for both Barbadian and Canadian
athletes and coaches.”
In the Memorandum of Understanding, both national Olympic committees pledge to
develop stronger partnerships between sport federations of Canada and Barbados
with athlete development an area of focus. This includes the free exchange of
coaches, officials, trainers, judges, experts and scientists for participation
in seminars, courses and counselling.
"This agreement helps spur initiatives with our friends in Barbados and will
benefit the development of sport in the Pan American region now and well into
the future," Rudge said.

Nicholas Neckles wins Final at
Grand Prix - Coupe Canada - Coupe Du Quebec 2009.
June 18-21, 2009 "Piscine Olympique", Montreal.
After about three and a half years absence from International competitive
swimming, Nicholas Neckles of the SilverFins Swim Club returned to the pool at
the Coupe Du Quebec 2009, over the weekend to become the first Barbadian swimmer
to capture a GOLD medal on the International Grand Prix circuit. Nicky came
first in the men's "A" final in the 50 meters Backstroke in a time of 26.43.
Nicky was also 1st. in the prelims with a time of 26.80.
This result culminated an excellent meet for Neckles, as he had earlier in the
meet won two (2) bronze medals. on Friday 19th.June, he place 3rd. in the "A"
finals of the 100 meters Backstroke in a time of 57.23; he had also been the top
ranked swimmer out of the prelims with a time of 57.07.
On Saturday Nicky was back in the pool again placing 3rd.in the "A" final of the
200 meters Backstroke in a time of 2:03.89. He was seeded 9th. from the prelims
having done 2:08.73.
All three times are well within the qualifying time standard set for the CAC
swimming championships in PR next year. Nicky has targeted the CAC championships
next year as his major meet; Nicky is currently training in Barbados as he
prepares for next year's CAC swimming championships, and is being coached by
coach Abdul Sharif of the Pirates Swim Club.
